Alexander Trimble

Alexander was born in 1900, the third born son of Alexander Trimble and Nellie Mehaffy. He had eight siblings, two of whom died before they were 2 years old. His elder brother Jack served in the Royal Irish Rifles, enlisting at fifteen years old in 1914. His younger brother Samuel also enlisted at fifteen, joining the Royal Air Force in 1918.

We don’t have very much information about Algie’s service - we know he served with the Royal Irish Rifles, and was discharged on the 15 October 1919 without a disability.

We do not know if he was part of the family tradition of enlisting as a boy, or if he waited until he came of age.

*The slide includes three men - the middle one we know is Jack. One of the other brothers is in army uniform - This must be Alexander who was in the Royal Irish Rifles. Therefore we are assuming that the man pictured not in uniform, is the brother in the Royal Air Force, Samuel.
