Robert McAuley Hunter

Killed In Action

14 February 1917

Robert was the eldest of 10 children (8 daughters and 2 sons) born to Joseph and Eliza Jane McAuley. He followed in his father’s footsteps working as a railway fireman. Robert was born in Carrickfergus in 1886, but the family moved around, living in Antrim in 1901 and in Belfast in 1911.

Robert enlisted in the 20th (1st Central Ontario Infantry) Battalion, of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1915.

On enlistement Robert was only 5ft 5inches with dark brown hair, a fair complexion and green eyes. He was fit and healthy.

He died 14th Feb 1917, and is buried in Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont St Eloi, France.
